Procesuálny projekt Bivak, prebieha v dvoch periódach. Naplnením a realizáciou bolo umiestnenie drevenej sochy do steny Lomnického štítu a neskôr do steny Nórskeho Jossingfjordu.
Štefan Papčo pracuje s médiom sochy, objektu a videoinštalácie. Je absolventom Vysokej školy výtvarných umení v Bratislave, katedry Socha / Objekt / Inštalácia u Prof. Jozefa Jankoviča, akad. soch.

Work title: Bivouac
Year: 2008/2009/2010
Technique: online projection of life size wooden sculpture installed in Norwegian Jossingfjord, IP camera, internet connection
Sculpture dimension: 140x70x80 cm

Štefan Papčo works systematically with the issue of mountains, nature and a man challenged by his natural environment. One of his main topics is climbing as a tool to discover new areas and to go beyond own limits. He studied in the studio of “Sculpture and space” and his works range from objects and sculptures to installations with a strong conceptual background.
His processual project Bivouac consists of sculpture embedded in mountain’s environment. Life size wooden figure of a man bivouacking in his sleeping bag protected only by surrounding stone walls is observed by internet users through cameras fitted near by. Non-stop transmission documents permanent impact of nature on the sculpture which metamorphosis depends on the different weather conditions. In time it gets cov¬ered with snow or it is dried by the sun and is constantly invaded by mildew. Perceiving this situation from the secure place in front of the computer makes the difference between our daily life and natural environment more visible. The process confronts routine of the internet observers with natural need of calm.
First installation was set up in June 2008 in the High Tatras in Slovakia. After three months, sculpture was transported to Jossingfjord in Norway and installed in the similar way. The installation was hard to realize and was chosen for its solitude position and harsh condition as its primary characteristic but the purpose of the author was to generate a possibility to watch it via internet anytime and anyplace in the world.
